2nd Annual Crawfish & Cock-Tales for a Cause!

Thanks to Brandon Hampton of Hampton's Collision Center for sponsoring our Annual Crawfish & Cock-Tales for a Cause! to help support our youth in our Dare 2 Dream Summer Camp! We gathered together, fellowship, played games, danced, and ate plenty of good crawfish. Our youth showcased their talents to our family, friends, and supporters. Funds raised will be used to help our families in need of scholarship assistance due to financial hardship. This summer we will be able to help 10 kids attend summer camp based on family income eligibility.

BEING A BLESSING FOR THE HOLIDAYS!

Once again, HE DID IT!!! I've met so many wonderful people along this journey through God's Divine Connections. Words can not express the joy I feel. In Christ, He keeps on giving; it's not just a one-day event! We have seen His Glory, the Glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14

One of my families shared a story with me that I believe many can relate too. Mr. Landry's family was selected as one of our Angel Wing's family. He shared how humbling this experience has been for him, his wife, and their family. They were use to being the Givers and not the on the receiving end. They usually adopt a family to help during this time of season. Now they are in position that has taught them how to receive God's blessing when He sends help in a time of trouble. A family from Mississippi (complete strangers) showed up at their home when they were going through the process of gutting their home. They didn't know how this family found them. The minister told him that God sent him to help his family. Mr. Landry was very hesitant to receive the man's offer because he was not accustomed to this way of life. The minister told him, how he heard of him. Mr. Landry's brother attended their church in MS. He told the minister what his brother was dealing with here in LA due to the flood. The minister encouraged Mr. Landry to always receive God's blessing when He sends someone to help you. He said "never hinder the person doing the giving by rejecting his or her blessing to you from God." When you do, you may interfere with God's blessings for that person because of their obedience. Mr. Landry was pushing back tears while saying "he is so humble and thankful for everything everyone has done." Now he can receive with gladness and tears of joy. They are still waiting on their FEMA trailer but they got God and each other!

Another dear friend I met later that night as sponsor for one of our Angel Wings family, put it another way that I love. Mrs. Terri Franklin and I were having a conversation very similar to understanding the laws and principles of Giving and Receiving. And she said she has always believed in these 2 words that speaks mountains, "Bless and Release!!!" When you Bless Others, God Releases His Blessings to You!!! And that's what many of you have done in various communities from all over the country. We appreciate your heart to give to others!!! May God continue to bless each of you and may your New Year be prosperous!!!

God Bless,
Stefanie CEO/President

Together in Partnership with Nourishing Louisiana!!!

We want to thank them for their time, effort, resources, and family commitment to give and feed families in a time of need by being a Present Help Partner!!! We delivered meals to Denham Springs, Port Vincent, and the Baton Rouge area including hotels. DEEP IN THE HEART of TEXAS!!! Tuesday 9/13/16

It was such a blessing to meet and spend time getting to know good-hearted people like Gary and his wife, Marty Evans from Temple, TX. They made it in last night around 8:30 after a 12-hour drive to deliver a trailer load of donations to People of Purpose. Meeting these two was a very personal moment that brought joy to my heart and tears to my eyes because we immediately knew it was a divine connection. Gary told me he was just glad that I answered his call that day when he was searching for the right organization to become partners with for this project. This is the beginning of long-lasting friendship that we both look forward to nurturing. Gary led this project for the C.E.R.T. (Community Emergency Response Team) and Temple Fire Department. He stated “This has been an amazing experience! I’m just a heavy equipment mechanic and have done a lot of volunteering in the past but never to this magnitude!” Thanks to C.E.R.T. and its community for the financial contribution as well to help People of Purpose continue its mission to serve and help families in transition resolve challenges in their family, life, and finances by providing them what they need to regain stability in their lives. We are in this for the long haul with our communities and families affected by the flood. Every partner that has partnered with us understand the need to be a “Present Help Partner” in a time of trouble for our city and has come through in a major way. Within the last 3 weeks, we've received donations from several cities in various states including our very own state of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Arkansas, Texas, Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, and Wisconsin totaling 20 different cities from 10 states. Thanks for letting us know that Louisiana Matters!

PRESENT HELP DONATION SITE

POP has launched PRESENT HELP DONATION SITE in response to the recent flood disaster that has affected our communities, city, and state of Louisiana. We are operating a Donation Site for Flood Victims in this area located at the Cross of Glory Fellowship Hall at 5500 Stumberg Lane. We need volunteers to help organize, sort, and assist victims with receiving donations when they come to the center. If you have a special request, please let us know people via email at info@popcdc.com. People are willing to be your "PRESENT HELP" in a Time of Need. We have received donations from the community and states in Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Texas, Illinois, New Jersey, and Canada.

This is not a temporary assignment for our organization. Our mission is to help families in transition resolve challenges in their life, family, and finances. We realize that people have lost everything and are rebuilding from the ground up. It's time for us as a community and country to be their foundation and help rebuild the lives of these families in our city!

Next to the Donation Center, the Y.T.A. Learning and Youth Center is offering FREE childcare/babysitting services for those flood victims as well while they rebuild their lives to help relieve not only the financial burden and have a safe, nurturing environment that will feed and care for their children.

Donations accepted here to help purchase new items and needs of the families. We also need donations to help sponsor a child or a family to assist with childcare.

Y.T.A. AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM AUGUST 2015 - MAY 2016

CyberPlay Café is a digital learning after school program of Youth Taking Authority (YTA) for school age youth. The goal is to prepare children through digital learning for college, work and life. We offer youth opportunities to achieve academic success and close the achievement gap by providing academic assistance in Reading, Math, Science and any other areas of need in the home, school, and community.  We showed appreciation to all the kids in our program who came to our program with only F's and D's, now they have all A's, B's, and C's. We teach our kids to "Excel Above Their Own Expectations!" We thank the parents for their support and involvement with ensuring their children are successful in education. 90% of students in our program are passing and improved their skills in reading and math.

Mark, a 9th grade student was failing in all his classes with F’s and D’s. We tutored him primarily in math and language. After we worked with him on completing assignments and turning in homework. Mark pulled his grades up to all passing with A’s and B’s. We helped the family address problems in the home which were distracting and frustrating to Mark and he couldn’t focus at school. Now Mark is excelling in academics and has a job working part time after school.

Pat, came to us and could not read. She was in the 2nd grade and reading on a Kindergarten level with very low self-esteem. Now Pat has blossomed and leading our reading group during Harambee Time which is Swahili for “Let’s Pull Together.” Pat can now read proficient on a 2nd grade level and has improved her grades in math and reading.

Alia, is a 7th grade student that had all F’s and D’s. We tutored her in the areas she was struggling in, which were math and science. Her mother and father involvement was a crucial part of her success being that she had recently encountered a devastating abuse situation and she had tried to commit suicide. When she entered the program she had a 1.3 GPA. We worked with the whole family to address matters in the home and school. Alia worked hard to improve her grades by completing assignments and homework. She improved her grades in math and science. She was able to turn her situation around and now she has a 3.1 GPA.
